Author: Alexandra Silva

Genre: Contemporary Romance

About Someone Like You:

Dorian Anson is my friend. She’s the only person who’s ever questioned my smiles. My jokes. The one liners that have our friends shaking their heads at me.
I’ve lived my life on those smiles. They never failed me, until her.

I wasn’t counting on her when I designed my front. I never imagined the possibility of someone like her coming into my life.

The wild hair, the kind smile and those eyes that see everything.

She was the girl with the beautiful soul, pretty face and whole heart. But hearts aren’t made to stay whole.

I watched hers break. I watched her tears fall. I watched as her world tilted on its axis and shattered at her feet.

This girl.

She sees me, all parts of me—the truths I try to hide, the secrets I bury. What’s mine and what’s not.

She sees it all, and I can only hope the truth isn’t too much. That she won’t walk away.

That she won’t leave me…alone.

We both have a past. We have ghosts. We have fears.

I’m hoping that somehow in the end, we’ll have each other too.

I’ve never needed anyone before her, and I know I’ll never want anyone else after her.

There is no one like her.

My pretty girl.

Dorian.

Exclusive Excerpt:

Over the years our girls’ nights had become more of a child friendly affair. Gone were the cocktails and in was the tea. Willow and one of our friends, Beth, had stumbled on this gem of a tearoom a while back and we’d made it a point to hold our monthly catch-up sessions here. It was a small little teashop in a quiet little residential backstreet close to Willow’s flat in Kensington.

Molly and Pippa enjoyed the vintage dress up box and us older girls liked the natter. Quincy, Willow and I were childhood friends.

Quincy was probably the strongest person I knew. We’d lost Phillip, her brother, and on top of that she’d suffered a stillbirth and divorced her cheating, scumbag of a husband after finding out she was pregnant with Pippa.

I thought that I’d die when I’d found out that Phillip was gone, I couldn’t remember anything but the sheer pain. There were times that it still hurt as much now as it did then. Especially when Phillip’s absence, his death, impacted our son. Losing the man you thought you’d love for the rest of your life was a bitch, but merely thinking of the possibility of losing Daniel, that was enough to truly kill me.

My sweet boy.

“Oh god, this has got to be the best brownie I’ve ever had.” Quincy moaned as she shoved the rest of the small square in her mouth. “If we come here more often, I’ll have to join a gym.”

“I think it might be worth it though.” I giggled, as I watched Molly and Pippa wrap white feather boas around Beth’s and Willow’s shoulders.

“What’re you giggling about over there?” Willow looked between me and Quincy, her eyes narrowed at us like she suspected we were keeping something from her.

“Nothing.”

“The cake.”

“You say nothing,” she gestured toward me and then over at Quincy, “she says cake. Which is it?”

“Cake.” Quincy and I both sighed. It was good cake, almost better than sex, or what I remembered of it.

“I can think of something better than cake…” Beth snickered, waggling her brows at Willow. Her Welsh twang was something that made me smile to this day, I swear she could make the Hail Mary sound dirty.

Molly looked between us, her face pinched in confusion as she said, “Uncle Jake says there’s nothing better than cake and ice cream.”

“Speaking of,” Beth stood from her makeover chair and sat back at the table with us, “how did the football thing go?”

“Good.”

“Just good?” Quincy asked as she examined one of the mini scones glistening with jam and clotted cream atop.

“Yes.”

“Why’re you being so evasive about it?” Willow gave me one of her curious looks.

“I’m not, the match went well, they won. It was nice of him.” I glanced over at Pippa and Molly who were going through the dress up box again.

“Yeah, it was really nice of him.” Beth sang a little too teasingly.

“Stop it.”

“Come on, Dorian, you have to admit he’s a little bit nice himself.”

“Beth.” I warned as she shrugged like I was the one being silly.

I didn’t want to talk about him with them. I didn’t want to think about him any more than I already did, especially about how pleasant he was to look at or spend time with.

“She’s got a point, Dory, he’s actually…you know…” Quincy smiled, her cheeks blushing like she was saying something inappropriate.

“Yeah, he’s hot until he opens his mouth and then you want to slap him or snap his tongue off.” Willow rolled her eyes as she poured herself another cup of tea. I internally chuckled at her indignation, she and Jake were very alike in the way they interacted with people. They didn’t let many people in, but when they did, they were loyal to a fault. Not to mention that they were both great at pressing people’s buttons.

“I love Uncle Jake, he’s my goddaddy like you, Dory.” Molly chimed as she and Pippa sat at the table with us.

“I’m your godmother, sweetie.” I couldn’t help but tap her little button nose with the tip of my finger, something she always pulled a sort of sour face about, but never complained.

God, I’m that aunt that pinches cheeks and coos like a bloody overbearing fool.

The thought alone made me cringe as I then started to imagine myself as the cat lady on the second floor of my building. Nice to everyone, but essentially invisible and alone. As unlikely as that would be with this lot around, it still struck a dissonant chord and it made me uneasy.

When did I become this person? I asked myself, the answer immediately flashing in my mind as a pair of distant, beautiful brown eyes and a soft cheeky smile. Phillip.

“I still struggle with that decision.” Willow groaned.

“He’s great with the kids,” I sighed, trying to ignore the pang my thoughts had brought with them.

“Because he’s a child himself.”

“You know he’s not that bad.” I’d known Jake for over a decade. We’d spent a lot of time with one another. I’d learned that there was a lot more to him than what most people saw, and a part of me didn’t know what to make of that.

I didn’t understand why he’d allowed me to see him in all those lights, but it made me happy, even if that happiness brought a sting of guilt with it.

“But, he is hot, and he likes spending time with you.” Beth smiled. “Anyone would think he might like you…like you. Plus, you need to get back into the tango of things.”

“I can barely balance Daniel and work, and thinking about people like that…well, I don’t know, it seems wrong. Oh, and I have a child.”

Thinking about Jake like that didn’t feel wrong, what felt wrong was thinking about him in one breath and in the next thinking about Phillip. Sometimes I wondered if I would still think of Jake like that if Phillip were still here. If we’d even be friends like we are. The worst part of it was the panicked feeling at the possibility that we might not be the way we are if Phillip hadn’t died.

It was a panic laced with guilt and self-loathing because what if I still felt all the same things toward Jake even if Phillip was here?

It doesn’t mean you’d still be together.

The thought made me cringe. I couldn’t imagine not being with him, not when we had Daniel.

“I have Daniel.”

Google it? That’s your plan?” She marked me with a glare that wasn’t half as playful as the one she usually gave me.

“That’s the plan, pretty girl, once you’ve told me what’s wrong.” I sat her back down on one of the stools and pushed the flute of wine away. “Before you try to tell me it’s nothing, I can tell something’s up.”

“I’m tired and grouchy.” She sighed gruffly as she reached for her drink, her jaw clenching as I took it from her and put it far enough away that she couldn’t get to it.

“You need to take a break, baby. You’re running yourself into the ground.”

“I’m fine, I’m just trying to get this case done. But there’s something that I’m not seeing and it’s bugging the crap out of me.”

“What do you mean?”

“My brother is a neurosurgeon, my best friend is a cardiothoracic surgeon, you’re a plastic surgeon…do you know what you all have in common?”

“We’re fucking amazing?”

“Apart from that.”  She rolled her eyes as I sat down on the stool next to her and reached for her glass. I took a small sip before I handed it to her. “None of you have a clean slate. All of you have had something go wrong.”

She looked at me apologetically, like she was picking at a healing scab.

“It’s impossible to have a clean record when it comes to surgery.”

“Exactly, that’s why I was up crazy o’clock this morning going through my paperwork, trying to figure out what I’m missing.”

“You need to rest, Dorian.”

“I can’t, it’s not that easy…my brain won’t switch off.

“I get that, but you can’t run on empty.”

“I won’t lose this case, it’s my record. My career. It’s a permanent mark…”

I got that she was driven. I got that she had ambitions. I did. But, my worry wasn’t about her career, I knew that she would manage to wipe the floor with whoever came at her. My worry was for her wellbeing. Her health was far more important than another notch on her wins tally.

“What am I missing, Jake?” she gritted as she finished her drink.

“I don’t know, Dorian, but at some point, you’re going to have to decide if it’s worth risking your sanity and wellbeing…Daniel needs you.” I cringed inside, I knew that was below the belt.

“That’s not fair.” She pushed up from her seat and wandered over to the sink. She washed her hands like they were covered in sticky, invisible dirt. Scrubbing until her skin was red and raw. “Everything I do is for my son. Everything.”

“I get that you’ve worked hard to get to where you are. I admire how dedicated you are to getting to the top. I love that about you. I love that you push and keep pushing until things go your way and you get to where you need to be.”

“But?” She spun towards me, her hands tightening around the edge of the sink on either side of her. Her knuckles so white that they were a stark contrast to the dark granite.

“But there are times when we need to pull back, so we can press on another day.” I stood from the stool I was sat on and ambled to her. Her body strained flush to mine as she looked up at me with resignation in her eyes. I fucking hated having to be the one to push for her to slow down, but on this particular occasion, it was the best thing for her.

“I’m so close to getting where I want to be, Jake. So close I swear my fingertips can graze my goal.” She sighed, her breath pushing out of her raggedly as I anchored my hands on either side of hers. Her heaving chest pressed into mine.

“Pretty girl, you are an incredible force to be reckoned with, and anyone who thinks otherwise…they just have no idea. This is one wave, there’s a whole sea of them you can ride. Don’t let this be the one that drowns you. It’s not worth it, nothing is worth more than you are.”

Her eyes flitted from mine to my lips, the corner of her mouth quirked up as her tongue swept over her pout.

“Take a break, look after yourself. Please.” Her eyes rounded as I cupped her face.

“You’re not playing fair.”

“I will never play fair when it comes to you and Daniel. There is no line I won’t cross when it comes to keeping what’s mine safe.”

“We’re not your property.”

“Property?” I laughed at the way she thought I saw her and Daniel as belongings. She was fucking clueless even with the way her eyes drew on mine and her pout pinched. “It’s fucking biology, Dorian. You and Daniel are a part of my biology, my anatomy. I’ll do whatever it takes to keep my heart intact.”

Her eyes widened, the green so vibrant that the golden flecks didn’t blend and bleed with it.

“Alright. Fine. God, you’re impossible, you know that?” She cupped my face lightly, her nails affectionately grazing the stubble on the underside of my jaw.

“I love you, Dorian, but fuck me, you don’t make things easy.”

“Do you want easy?” she whispered into the hollow of my throat.

“I want you.” That was as simple and easy as it got. I wanted her and Daniel. That was all, and I would never let them go.

“I believe I kissed you thoroughly.”

“You did. I should’ve raised the ante.” She chuckled as she reached down and picked the bag up from where it’d fallen onto the chair.

She handed it over to me with a smirk. Her lips pursing like she was trying not to laugh.

I kept my eyes on her as I opened it and then I looked in, “lube? You got me lube?”

She burst out laughing. Her eyes actually watered. “You were complaining about how your dick was getting friction burn from your hand, so…”

“So…you got me lube?”

She took the bottle from my hand and inspected it before she said in a soft and sultry tone, “it’s not just any lube. It lasts longer, making a little go a looooong way. Oh, and apparently it tingles all the right places.”

“You got me tingly, long-lasting lube. Just what every guy wants for his birthday.”

“I got you something else too.” She reached into her bag and took out a small cardboard box with a little blue bow stuck on top.

“Oh wow, is this a cock ring to go with the lube?” I asked teasingly as I took the box from her. “You shouldn’t have.”

“Shut up and open it, Becca was right, you’re testy.”

“Stop calling her Becca, she’s not your friend. She’s my assistant.”

“Just open the damn box before I really do take that one back.” She poked my shoulder.

After the lube, what else could she possibly get to top it?

Title: Someone Like You
Author: Brittney Sahin
(Sub)genre: Contemporary

About Someone Like You:

He was a nameless guy in a bar–a man Grace couldn’t get out of her head…

A week later, she came home to find him sweaty and shirtless with a tape measure in hand, remodeling her loft. As a Parker-King, she’s not allowed to want someone like Noah Dalton. She’s sick of her life, though. Sick of the rules of being a Parker-King. She wants something more, even if it isn’t forever. Somewhere in history there was that one time where hot, no-strings-attached sex didn’t end badly, right? Finding comfort in the arms of a former SEAL is easy, not falling for one . . . not so much.

Noah left the military and moved to New York for one reason: his daughter. Not for some uptight businesswoman–a Manhattan elitist. So when Grace offers him the kind of relationship that no hot-blooded man can turn down, he should say no. And when her seemingly put-together life spins out of control, and his instincts to protect and save kick in, he should turn away. But he doesn’t.

Can two people from different worlds really live in the moment, knowing they’re on borrowed time, or is someone bound to get hurt?

About the Author:

Brittney Sahin began writing at an early age, with the dream to be a published author before the age of 18. Although academic pursuits (and, later, a teaching career) interrupted her aspirations, she never stopped writing—never stopped imagining.

It wasn’t until her students encouraged her to follow her dreams that Brittney said goodbye to Upstate New York in order to start a new adventure in the place she was raised: Charlotte, North Carolina. Here, she decided to take her students’ advice and begin to write again.

In 2015, she published her first novel, The Safe Bet. When she is not working on upcoming novels, she spends time with her family. She is a proud mother of two boys and a lover of novels, coffee, and the outdoors.

“Sorry about him. I hope he didn’t say anything offensive.”

“Nothing I haven’t heard before,” she says while glancing over her shoulder at me for a fleeting moment.

“Right. Well, can I buy you a drink to make up for it?” I have no clue why I’m still standing here, but damned if I can get myself to move.

“Ohhh, I get it.” She slips her hand free from her glass and faces me. “Is this some party trick of yours? One of you approaches and acts like an ass and the other guy steps in for the rescue? It’s kind of a tired routine, don’t you think?”

Her pale eyes draw me in before my attention dips down to her lips. No lipstick or gloss. Just full, natural lips. Lips I suddenly want to pull between my teeth to see if she tastes as good as she smells.

This is new for me. This feeling of being drawn to another woman. Even after almost a year of separation, I can’t help but notice the tinge of guilt coiling inside me over being attracted to another woman. Sure, I had those random rebound hookups, but those were out of anger.

“No, it’s not a routine,” I say.

“Well, you’re not my type.” Her eyes wander to my hand, which is pressed to the counter at my side.

“And what’s your type?” I look at her. “Some guy in Armani with a money clip packed with more bills than I have in my bank account?”

Shit. Cindy’s in my head and this woman is fast becoming my target, someone I suddenly want to hate.

Although Miss Fourth of July looks nothing like my ex, she certainly reeks of money. Her clothes probably cost more than my rent at the docks. Not that I’m paying that much thanks to a friend.

But the huge Prada bag on the bar stool next to her could buy my meals for a month. And the bag is another reminder of Cindy, because the only reason why I know it’s Prada is because Cindy’s mom bought her a similar purse on our ten-year anniversary—as if that wasn’t enough to make me feel like shit. Yes, thank you, mother-in-law, for outdoing me about ten times over on my goddamn anniversary.

The woman stares at me with parted lips, not saying anything, and I get the feeling that isn’t the norm for her. There’s a slight bit of red pulling at her cheeks when she finds my eyes again.

“Well, I hate to break it to you, lady, but you’re not exactly my type either.” Okay, so I don’t even know what my type is anymore, but I’m not in the right state of mind to find out.

“Ah. You really are clever, aren’t you?” The woman’s smiling now. Her white teeth tease between her lips, but it’s the sexy way her eyes and nose smile too that has me swallowing.

“Oh yeah? How so?” I place a hand on my chest, forgetting Cindy for the moment. Hell, the way this woman is looking at me right now, I can barely remember my own name.

“You’re trying to make me want what I can’t have. You, in this case.”

I didn’t expect that. Women don’t talk like this where I grew up, but I guess New York is a whole other ball game.

“Oh really?” I’m keeping up this charade longer than I have any business to. “So you have everything you want in life, huh?”

She wets her lips briefly. “I do, in fact.” Her eyes drift away from mine, an attempt to hide a lie.

I step closer and bend my neck a little so our eyes meet again. “You sure about that?”

She sucks in a noticeable breath, and when I realize I have her roped in—right the hell where any man would want a woman—I back up and turn away. Because I know a woman like her can be dangerous, and right now, I have one person I need to focus on.

About Someone Like You:

He was a nameless guy in a bar—a man Grace couldn’t get out of her head…

Not for some uptight businesswoman—a Manhattan elitist.

Title: Someone Like You18071024
Series: Someone to Love #2
Author: Addison Moore
Publisher: Skyscape
Publication Date: January 28, 2014
Summary: A sexy, romantic read from the New York Times and USA Today bestselling author of Someone to Love. When coed Ally Monroe literally falls into the arms of a tattooed bad-boy one summer night, she can’t seem to let go. Morgan Jordan is everything Ally doesn’t want—he’s a playboy from a blue collar background, and Ally’s looking for upper-class stability. Though their relationship starts off as a one-night stand, once Ally learns Morgan is her best friend’s brother, there’s no escaping him . . . or the growing fire between them. As Ally and Morgan become closer, they confront bitter enemies, his sister’s disapproval, and paths pulling them in different directions at summer’s end. The second book in the bestselling Someone to Love series proves that in love and passion, sometimes two wrongs do make a right.
