She thought she had it all: the perfect house, husband, and future. Until one secret rips it all apart.

Nothing in Linkin Stone’s life has been easy. Raised by a single mom, working two jobs, and helping with his much younger twin brothers which keep him on his toes, and working two jobs. He busts his butt to right the wrong of someone from his past and keep the ones he loves safe. He doesn’t need anyone or anything. But that all changes the moment he meets his sexy, feisty neighbor, Lexi.

Exclusive Excerpt:

“It’s time to get this thing started!” the little old woman hollers behind me, walking by and swatting me on the ass. “Oh, that’s nice,” she adds with an ornery grin and a wink.

What in the hell is going on here?

“We’re ready. Go!”

“Go?” I ask, confused, and rubbing the back of my neck with my hand.

“Strip! It’s why you’re here, right? My granddaughter, Alexis, is celebrating her divorce, and what a better way to rejoice than with a stripper! Oh, that agency was right. You are a delicious, big ol’ slab of meat. So, take it off! Take it off!” the woman chants, the girls standing off to the side giggling and chugging whatever is in their glasses (probably alcohol).

“Grandma, this is completely not necessary,” Lexi says from the chair.

“Zip it! It’s completely necessary to welcome you back into the dating world with some naked man meat. This is a cellllllllebrationnnnnnn, Alexis.”

“Stop calling me that. I’m not even divorced yet.”

“Semantics.” Walking up to her granddaughter, the old woman whispers loudly, “Hey, maybe you’ll get to sleep with the stripper. He’s super hunky with a great ass,” she adds with another wink sent my way.

“Please don’t do this,” Lexi begs from her chair.

“Too late. I’ve already paid the beefcake. Just sit there and enjoy. I know I’m ready,” Grandma says, pulling a folding chair nearby so she gets an up-close and personal view.

My heart is hammering in my chest as I take in the room. The other occupants are staring at me expectantly, while Grandma grabs her phone, presumably to take pictures or video.

Strip in a room full of woman?

For Lexi?

Fuck yes!

Suddenly, the music changes to Warrant. “Cherry Pie” blares through the speakers, and I realize I’m at a fork in the road. I can get the hell out of this apartment, away from the crazy old woman who’s apparently into buying her grandkids strippers, and hide away from Lexi and her whacked family for the rest of my time in this building.

Or, I can stay.

And strip.

A broad smile stretches across my face as I take in the anxiously nervous woman sitting before me. I wonder why she hasn’t removed her blindfold, and upon closer inspection, I realize her hands are also tied to the back of the chair.

Perfect.

Exclusive Excerpt:

When the door is closed, I turn my attention back to her. “So, that was the husband, huh?”

“Ex.”

Stepping forward, I invade her personal space. Her eyes are alive with fire, but not in the way they were moment ago with the douche. No, her eyes dance with a heady mixture of excitement and lust as she glares back at me. “Watching you tear him apart and eat him alive was so fucking hot,” I confess, touching the side of her cheek with the side of my finger.

Her gasp echoes in the hall, invading my soul and filling my mind with dirty images. Ones of her and me, naked, and making little noises just like that. “I hear cold showers work wonders to help cool you down,” she suggests with a smirk.

“Are you joining me in said shower?”

“Not in this lifetime, bucko.”

“Shame. I’m sure you’d really know how to turn up the heat in the shower, firecracker.” Again, I touch her face. I can’t seem to stop touching her. She should probably run in the other direction, fast. Hell, I should run the other way as quickly as possible. The last thing I need is a woman clouding up my brain, distracting my focus from helping my mom.

But I’m just a man.

A man with urges and needs, and those are directed at this little spitfire of a woman who makes me want to turn all caveman on her and throw her over my shoulder. I bet I could extract another of those sexy little gasps if I were to swat her ass.

Plus, throw in the fact that she’s technically married. That point alone is enough to make me want to look away. But I can’t. I’m drawn to her, like a moth to a flame. This desire I felt, even after only a brief meeting several weeks ago, clearly isn’t going away anytime soon. Not when she stands there with fire dancing in her eyes and a sadistically little smile on her lips. Oh, this woman is trouble, and I’m going to get burned.

“Well, whether that’s true or not, I guess you’ll never know,” she quips, my brain picturing exactly what she’s look like naked in the shower. Of course, having my eyes glued to her ass when she turns to walk away helps those images. A lot.

“Maybe,” I reply with a smile.

“No maybe,” she fires back, turning her attention back to me. Or at least I think she turns it back to me. I can’t tell. My eyes are still focused on the same spot her ass was just occupying. When I glance up at her eyes, I swear I’m scolded from the heat.

“Stop looking at my ass,” she chastises.

“It’s a nice ass,” I defend, refusing to look away from those hypnotizing green orbs.

“You’re impossible.”

“You like me.”

“No, no, I don’t. You’re…annoying and impossible and just like rattling my chain.”

Stepping closer yet until I can smell the scent of her lotion and see her throat bob as she swallows hard (a result of my nearness), I say, “You. Like. Me. You just don’t know what to do about it.”

Rolling her eyes, she fires back, “Don’t be so sure of yourself. You’re not that likeable.”

Lexi reaches back and finishes unlocking the door. Before she steps inside, she pauses, making my heart skip a beat and my boner stand up and say hello. “Thank you for helping me get rid of him,” she says softly, without turning and looking my way.

“Anytime he gives you trouble, come get me.”

Before she can slip inside and disappear on me, I reach forward and touch her arms. My gut tightens as my fingers dance along smooth, soft skin. I’ve never had a reaction like this to a woman. Never. So why her? Why this little hellion in heels? She’s already given me sleepless nights and wet dreams and I don’t even know her. I should stay as far away from her as possible, but if I know one thing about myself, it’s that I love a challenge.

And Lexi Summer is that challenge.

Exclusive Excerpt:

Back on stage, Gage instantly starts heckling me about where I was with Crystal. I don’t bother telling him I wasn’t with her because he sure as shit won’t believe me. He’s one of those guys who latches onto something and won’t let go. Like a dog with a bone, he’ll keep needling me until I give him the juicy details. Only this time, there are no details to give, but that doesn’t matter. He’ll just accuse me of keeping my dirty little secrets to myself. We’ve been down this road before.

Grabbing my guitar, I give it a quick tune, making sure everything is just right. Dexter starts tapping out the beat on his drums, and Andy and I join in on guitar. Gage belts out the opening notes of “Ring of Fire” by Johnny Cash and the crowd goes nuts. It’s not the typical rock music we usually play, but when we find a good song that the fans love and we enjoy playing, then we go with it.

After another two songs, it’s time to slow it down. Gage heads off stage to take a quick break, and I step up to the mic. I usually sing backup, but for three songs during our show, I take the reins and sing lead vocals. This song is one of them. It’s my favorite song to sing because it’s Abby’s song.

Way back when we were in grade school, I caught her humming it as we walked home from school. She was going to help me work on our Constitution assignment at her place, which happened every week or so. That particular day, she was quiet, lost in thought, so I let her be. Suddenly, she started humming, and it didn’t take me long to catch on to the tune. She had the voice of an angel, I remember thinking, and wanted to beg her to sing something for me. I had already discovered my love for music, but knowing that Abby shared this passion with me was like kismet. When I asked her about it, she just shied away and hid behind her books. I went home and started working on that song on my guitar. It took a while, but eventually, I got it down, and have been playing it ever since.

I start strumming the opening notes of Jeff Healey’s “Angel Eyes.” Continuing to play the song I know by heart, I scan the crowd until I see her, standing in the back, a soft smile on her face as she sings along to the song. Everything and everyone around us just fades away. It’s as if we’re the only two people on the beach. The way she watches me kicks my heart into overdrive, because I know, when it comes to this song, she only has eyes for me. Not that I want her eyes on me or anything. I mean, we are just friends. But if it were something more than friendship, then I’d be the luckiest son of a bitch to have her there with me.

Closing my eyes, I sing the words I’ve known by heart for fifteen years to my best friend. I can picture her out there saying the exact same words at the exact same time. We’ve sung this song together for years. Not publicly, of course, because she’d rather strip naked and do the chicken dance in the rain in the middle of Main Street than to get on stage and sing. In the privacy of her apartment or mine, we’ve belted out the words on several occasions. Abby actually has a beautiful voice. She just refuses to let anyone but me hear it.

When I reach the end of the second verse, I open my eyes and scan the crowd. She’s still there, standing in the same spot, watching me and singing along. I give her a knowing grin as I finish off the song strong, singing it for her. For her because she loves it, not because it means anything more than that. She’s my friend, remember? We’ve covered this.

Why does it feel like I’m completely full of shit?

Exclusive Excerpt:

I drive home in comfortable silence. I don’t think I’ve ever been content with comfortable silence with a woman before, which is just another reminder of how Avery is different from everyone else. She doesn’t feel the need to talk all the time for the sake of talking.

As we start to approach the city limits of Rivers Edge, I start to wonder what I should do next. If this were any other girl, I’d drive back to her house with no hesitation whatsoever and take her inside. But this is Avery, and like I said, she’s different.

“So, I thought maybe we’d stop by my house for a bit if that’s okay with you. This way, someone like Jake doesn’t see my truck parked in your drive and make trouble.” Even to my own ears, I sounded a little nervous as I said it. What the hell? It’s not like it’s my first time taking a girl home.

Then it hits me.

It is the first time I’m taking a girl home, to my house. I always go to their place. But the thought of Avery in my house, my bed, just feels right.

“That sounds good,” she says with another shy smile. I love that smile; it’s filled with happiness and innocence. I turn off Main Street and head down Lincoln towards my place. When I reach my house, I pull into the drive and kill the engine. Quickly, I hop out and walk around to her door. When I open it, she seems slightly hesitant, maybe even nervous.

“I can take you home if you want.”

“No,” she quickly throws out there. “I want to be here…with you.” There’s that damn smile again. I extend my hand to her and help her down from the truck and head inside.

When we step inside the dark recesses of my living room, I start to walk towards the lamp but she catches me by the arm, stopping me. I turn to look at her. The only light in the room is what moonlight is filtering through the window. Standing there in my darkened living room, light glowing off her blond hair, she looks stunning. She extends her hand up to cradle my cheek, her other hand runs up my abdomen from my stomach to rest on my chest. I step closer to her, looking deep into her eyes. She must have realized she was holding her breath because she lets out a big breath, which comes out a little shaky. I look deep into her crystal blue eyes, and that’s when I see it. Lust. Desire. Trust.

My resolve shatters like a glass vase with that one look as I push her back against my front door. Our lips are urging each other on as our desire for each other completely takes over. She runs her tongue down my neck, and I almost come completely undone in my pants like a teenage boy by that one simple move. I cradle her ass in my hands and lift her up. She threads her legs around my waist, her hands diving into my hair. I lean against her, pushing her back into the door, and she moans. It’s the sexiest fucking sound I’ve ever heard and all I can think about is being deep inside her, making her moan over and over and over again.

I press hot kisses along her chin, down her delectable neck and lick the spot where her pulse is rapidly beating. “Tell me to stop, Avery. Tell me to stop right now and I will. But if you say nothing, I’m taking you back to my room and burying myself deep inside you. I’m going to make you come and scream my name. All. Night. Long. Tell me you want this as much as I do.”

“I want this,” she whispers without hesitation and that’s all I need to hear.

About Entwined:

Sidney

10 years. 3,650 days. 87,600 hours.

That’s how long it has been since I saw my best friend. But who’s counting? Walking away from Luke Thomas was the hardest thing I’ve ever done, but the choice was out of my hands. I left Las Vegas a seventeen-year-old girl, afraid and alone, and returned about the same. I was forced into a situation I didn’t want to be in. Until that day. I haven’t seen him in ten long years, but one look at the man he became and that killer smile, and I knew I would never be the same.

Luke

Life goes on.

I learned that valuable piece of information at a young age, but sometimes a memory creeps up and smacks me square in the face. Or more accurately, a person. The day my best friend walked away was the day I realized I’d never be the same. My life became work, family, and women, and I was doing great. Then she walked back into my life. One look at the grown-version of Sidney Rogen leaves me breathless and yearning for more.

But love is never easy.

And our love story isn’t perfect.

In a heartbeat, one person can wrap around you so tightly, you’re entwined forever. That’s our love.

Exclusive Excerpt:

Luke

“So, I’m sure you see why I think we should break up, right? I mean, we’re both heading off to college soon, and I want to experience everything that college life has to offer.”

I gape at Jessica, my girlfriend for the past five months. Wants to experience everything? That’s code for ‘wants to sleep around.’ I’m a dude. I know.

“And you just had to do this tonight?” I ask, looking back at the doorway that leads inside my house. The same house where my entire family and a good amount of my friends are gathered to celebrate my high school graduation.

“Well, I just thought it was best to cut the cord now, you know? Like…just do it.”

“Whatever, Jess. If you want to break up now, that’s fine.”

“Really?” she asks, twirling her long brown hair around her pointer finger. “You’re gonna be okay?” She gives me those big brown, puppy dog eyes that won over my heart–and my dick–during Christmas break.

I’ve known this moment was coming since I started dating Jessica. I didn’t see anything long-term developing with her. Call me an asshole, but I knew she was just someone to help me pass the time during my final year of high school. But I also knew going into this that she felt the same way. I guess, in a way, we both used each other to keep ourselves company until we moved on to the next stage in our lives.

“I’m going to be fine, Jess. We both knew it was coming to this eventually, right?”

She continues to twirl her hair around her fingers. Why had I never noticed how fucking annoying that was? “Listen, we had a great time. If you’re ever in the Seattle area, look me up, ‘kay? We can maybe spend some time together for ol’ times’ sake.” Her smile tells me exactly what her comment means. She’s looking to hook up again if I’m ever close to where she’s attending college.

“Maybe,” I reply with a shrug.

As much fun as I’ve had with Jess in the last few months, I don’t see myself reaching out to her anytime in the future. The sex has always been all right, but nothing I see myself driving upwards of eighteen hours to get. There’s plenty of mediocre ass left in Vegas if I’m that desperate for a hook up. And, honestly, as an eighteen-year-old red-blooded male on the verge of experiencing college life, I’m pretty sure I’ll have no problem moving forward from here.

“Bye, Luke. It’s been fun,” she says before placing her full lips against mine. The kiss is brief, closed mouth, and lacks the usual tongue and groping we generally partake in. This kiss is goodbye.

I watch as she walks away, heading around the side of the house so she doesn’t have to go back the way she came; where my entire family celebrates. Gazing out over the darkened backyard, it’s not lost on me that there’s no going back from here. That I’m finally leaving the only home I’ve ever known. I’ve graduated high school, will start UNLV in a couple of months, and will finally be out from under the controlling thumb of my mother. Ever since I was younger, Blake and I chalked it up to me being the baby of the family for her ever-present hovering and involvement in my life.

It’s time for me to grow up and experience life.

And I’m starting it without a girlfriend.

The slightest sound of something thumping against wood pulls my attention away from the emptiness of night and towards the small fort in the back corner of the yard. Built ten years ago out of pieces of scrap wood we’d find around the neighborhood, the fort was my brother’s and my escape from the house. We’d spend hours upon hours in that thing, playing with GI Joes, having Nerf gun wars, and when we were older, sneaking off to steal our first kisses.

But I know the noise coming from inside isn’t from my brother. There’s only one person who still uses that fort: our neighbor, Sidney.

 Entwined cover

Title: Entwined

Author: Lacey Black

Genre: Contemporary romance

Release Date: February 20th

That’s our love.

mykindakisses_liliquoteteaser_laceyblack mkk_laceyblack_thiskiss_teaserExclusive Excerpt:

It’s a Summer sister tradition that on the first Saturday of each month, the six of us get together. We take turns picking the location or activity, anything from margaritas and a movie to wine and painting classes at the small gallery uptown. One thing, though, is as certain as the sun rising over the Chesapeake Bay every morning; there will be alcohol involved.

Always.

Tonight, it’s putt putt golf at The Beaver, a local hangout offering a fun, casual atmosphere and a dozen different beers on tap. It’s also the home of Harry, the six-foot tall wooden beaver statue that takes up residence right in the middle of the beer garden. You never know what attire that large hunk of hand carved wood will adorn. It can be anything from a t-shirt supporting the local cancer charity to a coconut bra and grass skirt. The best part is, no one really knows where Harry came from. All we know is that he’s been in the middle of the beer garden of The Beaver since the 1940’s. See, Harry’s sort of the official mascot at one of our favorite hangouts in our small Virginian town along the Bay.

Jupiter Bay: Home of eight thousand busybodies who know everything about you, and will still go out of their way to help a friend in need. And since everyone knows everyone in Jupiter Bay, everyone’s your friend.

Or so they think.

Right now, I’m about to putt my bright pink ball through the spinning windmill and sink it in the hole for my second birdy of the night. What can I say? Putt putt is my sport. I know my way around the green.

“If you make this shot, I swear I’m never inviting you to play again,” my younger sister Meghan grumbles.

“Why don’t you shove that straw in your mouth and zip your lips while I sink this putt.” My backstroke is smooth, my follow-through precise as I tap my ball, sending it sailing through the windmill, bouncing perfectly off the sideboard, and dropping it straight into the cup. Perfect. Shot.

A round of groans erupt behind me as my five sisters watch my celebratory golf club shimmy. I turn around to face them, all bright eyed and wide smiled, and pretend to buff my fingernails on my shoulder and blow off the dust. This sister is on fire tonight. And I’m sure it has nothing to do with the three draft Heinekens I’ve already consumed since our arrival a little over an hour ago. No, I can hold my liquor. The beer only helps perfect my putt putt awesomeness.

“I don’t even know why we come here. You kill it every time,” my oldest sister Payton says.

“Don’t be jealous of my mini-golf amazingness. It’s a gift. The LPGA called last week and is interested in my skills,” I tell her, taking a final drink from my cup.

“I’m just glad to finally see the old Jaime again,” AJ adds solemnly. The look on her face lets me know she clearly didn’t mean to vocalize the thought. My sisters glance at each other–everywhere but at me, really–before adding discreet little nods.

I can’t dispute her statement, because AJ is right. I haven’t been myself. Not since my fiancé, Gavin, left me practically standing at the altar. In reality, it was the week of our pending nuptials, but the resulting damage was the same nonetheless. I was wrecked.

The result of the breakup was my return home to Jupiter Bay. I was the only sister to head off to college and not return home. My plan was simple, be married to a successful man by thirty with baby number one on the way by our one-year anniversary. I dreamed of staying home with my brood of adorable little brunette babies with their daddy’s hazel eyes. Company dinners, family outings, and PTA meetings. That’s what I wanted, and I was one week away from crossing phase one off the checklist when my world came crashing down around me.

I’m a planner by nature. I like to make lists of my daily tasks, my weekly chores, my life goals. Everything and anything can be organized properly on a nice little checklist, ensuring no detail is missed, nothing overlooked. Funny, but never on that list was being dumped before my master plan could fully get off the ground.

My plan essentially stalled the day I received that text. Yep, you heard me correctly. The jerkface pond scum couldn’t even break my heart and shatter my dreams to my face. He took the cowards way out and sent an impersonal message as if he were canceling a business meeting with a client.

Gavin: Hey, sorry this is last minute but I can’t marry you.

End of story.
