We are thrilled to celebrate the Release Day of Elizabeth Lee’s WHERE THERE’S SMOKE!!! WHERE THERE’S SMOKE is a New Adult Romantic Suspense novel that you don’t want to miss!

Where There's Smoke Front Cover

About WHERE THERE’S SMOKE:

There is something to be said for letting go. Ryland Roberts knows that better than anyone. He’d let go of his ambitions, of his family and—most of all—of her. He’d perfected the art of putting his past behind him and accepted the fact that the town he wanted to leave in his rearview was the place where he was going to live out his days. But sometimes the past doesn’t just go away. Sometimes it comes back to haunt you.
Piper Jameson convinced herself that she left for all the right reasons. She’d saved people by leaving—made sure that they weren’t tainted by her rebellious ways. When her little sister asks her to come home and say goodbye to their ailing mother, she’s forced to see that things aren’t always as they seem. The people who she’d left behind might not have been saved at all.

In the amount of time it takes a bullet to travel from point A to point B, Piper and Ryland will have to put their feelings for each other aside and make a choice. Forced on the run with Piper’s sister, they begin to understand that the future they thought was gone was never really lost.

WHERE THERE’S SMOKE Excerpt:

I stretched my arm out and placed a hand on the cool concrete, the grit and dirt sticking to my palm.  Such a contrast to the warmth I felt with Ryland firmly pressed up against me.  The curves of my backside fit perfectly against his long, lean frame, our skin heating up the chill around us.

The fall weather had descended upon our small Midwestern town almost overnight.  It seemed like only a week or two ago we had been wearing shorts and flip-flops.  Now it was jeans and jackets.  Well, actually, now it was nothing.

I felt my cheeks heat as I thought about what we had just done.  I wasn’t embarrassed.  Far from it.  In fact, I’d never felt more sure about anything in my entire life as I was about what had just happened with Ry.

“That was incredible,” he whispered against my neck as he traced lazy circles on my shoulder with his fingertips.

“Yeah,” I breathed, rolling onto my back to look up at him.  The soft glow of an outdoor utility light crept through the open side of the airplane hangar, barely lighting up the space.  “Never imagined our first time being on a blanket spread out on a cold, hard floor, but I would do it again in a heartbeat.”

“Me too. Let’s get on that then,” he said with a wicked grin before he pressed his lips to mine.  Propping himself on one arm—his hand resting against the side of his head—he snaked his free hand under one of the flannel blankets he’d commandeered from an airplane parked beside us.

I liked this side of him.  The side that wasn’t perfect and calculated.  The side that just did, said, and felt what he wanted.  He was literally feeling his way up my body—his hands smooth and rough all at the same time—sending all of my teenage hormones spiraling out of control.  We were living in the moment, which was exactly where I preferred to be.

“You know how much I love you, right?” His face became very serious, almost concerned.  “I wanted tonight to be special.  I thought we’d go back to my house after we looked at the planes.  My parents are gone and…”  He was back in his head, thinking about his meticulously thought-out evening.  Doubting his ability to be perfect.  He did this sometimes—overanalyzed things.  “It didn’t go exactly as I planned, but—”

“It was perfect,” I assured him. “Plans, schmans.”  I pulled his face to mine, giggling, my lips barely grazing his.  “And I love you, too.”

That was the thing about Ryland—I saw a side of him that no one else saw.  I could probably say the same for him about me.  Until him, I’d never felt like I was going to amount to much, but he believed in me, even when I didn’t—which was most of the time.  When I was with him, I didn’t feel like I needed to do everything in my power to piss people off.  He made me want to stay in this Godforsaken town with a family that ignored my existence.  They ignored it until I did something wrong—which was about ninety percent of the time.  Then my stepfather made sure to let me just how worthless I was.

“So do you feel like a rebel?” I asked.  “This being your first breaking and entering and all.”

It had been his idea to sneak on to the airfield—something that was much more in my wheelhouse than his.  I was the one who usually threw caution to the wind.  He was the good boy.  The straight-A student.  The doting son.

“Oh yeah.” He laughed. “I’m a regular badass.  Nothing like walking through an open gate to an abandoned shed.”  He cast his arm out sarcastically in the vacant space above our heads.  Nothing but sheet metal and wooden beams.  A handful of airplanes were parked around us with a smattering of fuel cans, tools, and parachutes hanging from the walls.  “I’m not sure we actually broke into anything.  More like casually strolled in.”

We lived in a town where people left their front doors unlocked.  The kind of town where everyone knew everyone and all of their business.  Truitville. It was a place with a minimal crime rate.  I think that night, that’s what we’d both thought: What’s the worst that could happen?

“So what’s next then, Clyde?  Wanna rob a bank?”

EXCERPT:

Jesse Vaughn was back.

Was he the one who took me home from the party last night? Why didn’t I remember? How drunk was I?

It had been nine long months since I’d last seen him, or even heard from him for that matter. I turned back to face January and Hap in utter disbelief.

“Yep.” Hap nodded with a confirming smile. January’s expression matched her boyfriend’s. They were excited about the possible reunion of Jesse and me. January knew everything that almost happened, so it went without saying that Hap was clued in. I hated to break it to them, but this wasn’t going to be the happily ever after that they’d hoped for. As much as I wanted to run up, wrap my arms around his neck and tell him how much I’d missed him, I couldn’t fight the dormant anger that I’d let be suppressed by the sadness and guilt. He left me. It was bad enough that Garrett was gone, but that wasn’t his choice. Jesse had left because he wanted to. I brought my hands up and covered my face, hoping he would walk back out the door before I had to face him.

“Hey, Lyss.” The tone of his voice was hesitant, surely he knew I was in shock to see him. “How are you?” It was hard to tell if he meant, “How are you? It’s been nine months since I last saw you.” or “How are you after getting completely shit-faced last night?” Just hearing his deep, raspy voice sent a ripple across my skin. I really thought he was gone.

I looked up to see him standing beside our table. He looked the same. He’d let his hair grow out, just a little bit longer, but it was same jet-black color and messy tousled look I remembered. The glow of his suntanned skin led me to believe that he’d been hiding out somewhere sunny as opposed to what I’d assumed, which was that he must have crawled under a rock and died, or fell off the face of the earth. Why else would he have just completely disappeared from my life? Everything that had happened the night of Garrett’s accident flashed in my mind. I couldn’t even begin to form a complete sentence. Instead, I pushed out of the booth and looked directly in the eyes I’d tried to forget.

“Don’t,” was all I could come up with before I ran out of the diner.

“Alyssa, please.” He followed me out the door. “Can’t we just talk?”

“No!” I yelled out, not breaking my stride as I walked across the street.

His hands stopped mine before I could pull the car door open and escape. The contact of our skin sent a shock up my arm. “Please.” I turned to see the desperation in his eyes. He pulled his lip between his teeth and brushed a stray hair from my cheek. His hand rested on my cheek. I caught myself turning my face into his strong, warm hand and quickly pulled away. As much as I wanted to fight it, everything that I’d felt for him was still there. I still wanted him to touch me. To kiss me. The guilt and anger that accompanied the desire was too much.

“I can’t do this, Jesse.” I pulled my face from his and quickly sunk behind the wheel of my car. I drove away, leaving him alone on the street.

I wasn’t ready to talk to him. To ask him the string of questions that had been running through my head for months. To explain my erratic behavior the night before. I wasn’t ready for any of it. So, I did the only thing I could think of to avoid the entire situation. I went home, opened the desk drawer and retrieved my new foolproof method of not dealing with it.

Elizabeth Lee’s TAKING SOMETHING – Release Day Launch!

We are so excited that Elizabeth Lee’s TAKING SOMETHING has been released!  TAKING SOMETHING is a New Adult contemporary romance and is the 2nd book in the Give Me Something Series, and seriously hot!! This book is a must read!

Taking Something -Front Cover

TAKING SOMETHING Synopsis:

I know what you’re thinking. “You were such a jerk, Nick!”  Believe me, I know I screwed up the best thing I had going in my life, but that was kind of my thing. I’d learned how to run cons before I could even form complete sentences, and I’d always been selfish.  But I changed.  Lila forgave me, my brother and I were getting along, and I was trying to make a name for myself in the music world.

At least that was what I was trying to do when I negotiated my way into the recording studio with pop superstar Sadie Sinclair. I thought it would be a piece of cake—charm my way into her heart and into her record label’s good graces.

Just when I thought I had it all figured out, I got mixed up in a web of lies, manipulation, and deception. A web that had me questioning my motives and desires altogether.

Was the fame and fortune really worth the price?

EXCERPT:

“Look, I totally get your reservations about me,” I placated her, even though I knew I was more than qualified to produce her album.  It was cookie cutter pop music.  Anyone with half a brain could do it.

“I may not have much experience with actual singers, but I’ve been mixing music since I was a kid.”

“You’re just a deejay, Nick. And no offense, but that is not the same as a music producer.”

“You’re right.  Spinning records is about playing to a crowd.  Finding that perfect rhythm for any circumstance.  Sometimes they want a carefree club mix to dance around to.  Other times they want a slow, sensual song to grind up on someone to.  I know how to read people and that’s beneficial in both cases.  I’m a people pleaser, but I’m also an artist.”

“How so?”

“Well, for one I can read you.  I know that you want people to hear a new side of you.  To hear the grown-up version of Sadie Sinclair.”

“That’s not reading me, Nick.  I told you that yesterday,” she replied, crossing her arms over her chest.

“Yes, you did,” I conceded with a nod.  “But it’s not always about what you say.  I can tell by the way you walk—the commanding click of your heels across the floor and the sway of your tight little ass.  You want to sing the kind of music that causes a stir.  You’re tired of singing songs about people falling in love and teeny-bopper breakups.  You want to sing songs about people making love. About passion and desire. About longing and fulfillment.”  Her eyes glazed over as she stared into mine.  Her lips parted as she let out a slow, steady breath.

I stepped closer to her and reached out, brushing my hand down her arm.  “You want to sing songs that get under people’s skin.  Leaves them wanting more.  You want to seduce them with your sound.”

“I do,” she answered mindlessly, watching my hand stroke up and down her arm.

“You don’t want to just sing songs, Sadie Sinclair.  You want to sing… sex.”

Her eyes fell shut as she thought about what I was saying.  I was going out on a limb with my assumption.  For all I knew, she wanted to sing gospel hymns to a reggae beat.  Lucky for me, the way she looked at me—like she wanted to eat me alive—was a proper assessment of exactly the kind of person she was. She finally opened her eyes and when she did, I knew I had her on the hook.

“Okay then, let’s hear it,” she insisted, pointing at the computer I was holding in my hand.  “I want to see if you’re any good.”

“Oh, I assure you that I’m more than just good.”  She was trying to play hardball, but if she thought for one second I didn’t see the glimmer of lust in her eyes, she was crazy.  “Take a seat, Miss Sinclair.” I pulled back one of the chairs for her.  She hesitated, like she didn’t want to seem too anxious to comply. I fired up my computer and pulled up a folder of tracks I’d been working on.  Careful not to mess up her hair, I slipped a pair of headphones over her ears.

She started to protest. “What are you doing?  We can listen to it—”

“In order to get the full Nick Kline experience, I need to get completely”—I paused leaning in inches from her face—“and totally in your head.”  She breathed me in and relaxed into her chair.  I was one song away from convincing Sadie Sinclair that I was the perfect choice for her.  Musically and more.

Excerpt:

“How about you pour me a cup of coffee, sweat pea?” I finally spoke, breaking the trace her graceful hands had on me and pointing at steaming coffee press in between us. She sighed and placed the knife she was holding down on the counter. With her empty hands firmly placed down on the marble, she looked up at me.

“Look, sweat pea,” she lipped. “I’ve got enough people to wait on and one of them actually pays me for it. If you want a cup of coffee, I suggest you get up off your self-entitled ass and pour one.”

My feet were on the floor and leading me around the counter to the cabinets before I had a chance to realize what I was doing. It must have been the look in her eyes or maybe I just felt like not being a jerk. I needed to be on her good side before I asked her the question I’d been thinking about all night.

“Mugs are in the one next to the fridge,” she told me, picking up her knife to continue her job.

“Thanks,” I replied, grateful that her civility was quick to return, and grabbed mug. I moved over next to her. The sweet smell of the fruit coupled with the scent of her shampoo, or soap, or maybe it was just her, had my mouth watering. Then she looked over and smiled at me, watching as I poured the coffee. Barely any make-up and her chocolate hair flowing down to the middle of her back, un-styled. Not my normal type, but something about her had me swallowing hard. And apparently daydreaming, because as I was watching her I decided I was going to fill my hand with scalding hot coffee instead of the mug it was holding. “Son of bitch,” I seethed.

Gia reacted quickly, pulling a washcloth from the drawer and soaking it with cool water. She was at my side quickly placing it on my stinging hand.

“Let me see,” she said sweetly, her eyes full of concern. She pulled back the rag and pulled my hand up. “I don’t think it’s going to blister.”

God, she’s beautiful. The look of concern on her face. The feel of her hand in mine. I had to remind myself to take a breath. I wanted more than anything to reach out and touch her face. Her warm, caring, concerned face.

“Thank you,” I said, pulling the rag from her hand and placing it back on the burn. She released her hand from mine and I took a step back. There had only been one other person who looked at me the way Gia was and we all know how that ended. I couldn’t let myself get wrapped up in the idea that another person could actually care about me. And I sure as hell didn’t deserve her compassion. I had been a total dick to her.

“That’s beautiful,” she said, reaching over and trailing her fingers across the moon tattoo on my right forearm. I wanted her to run her fingers over my skin again. All of it.

Excerpt:

“Tell me again how you plan on pulling this off?”  Lila asked as she sat down on the edge of my bed.  I had called her first thing that morning to tell her that I was heading to Los Angeles to produce Sadie’s album, and within the hour she was knocking on my front door to offer her insight and suggest what was and wasn’t acceptable Hollywood attire.

“Same way I pull everything off,” I answered quickly.

“I don’t think making her fall in love with you is going to work this time, Nick.”

“Seriously?” I smirked. “Now you’re doubting my abilities with women?”

“Not women in general.  Just this one.”

“She’s no different than the rest, Rae.”

“Yes she is,” she disagreed.

“How?”

“Well, for starters, she’s like the most famous person on the planet.  You’re not going to be able to make her fall for your charms, record the songs you want her to, and then just bolt when it’s over.  She’ll run your name through the mud and people will listen.  So it will have all been for nothing if you can never get another job.”

“What makes you think I’m going to bolt?  We might actually fall in love.”

“Are you capable of that?”

Ouch.  That hurt.

“I’m just saying that you might want to consider convincing her in a way that makes her not think she has a future with you.  Nothing is worse than a scorned woman, Nick.  Look at how Brynn took it.  She told everyone that would listen how big of an asshole you were.  It’s a wonder you made it through graduation without being murdered.”

Brynn was a mistake.  She had run a couple cons with me a few years ago when Lila went and fell in love with my brother.  I should have known better than to sleep with her, but dammit she was good looking.  Not to mention a hellcat in the sack.  I had needs.  Sue me.  It wasn’t my fault that she hadn’t understood our arrangement.  Run cons and have sex.  I never said anything about a relationship.

“I have other ways of making women bend to my will,” I said, trying to convince Lila.

“Do you?” She laughed, obviously not buying it.  “Don’t get me wrong, Nick. You’re a good guy, deep down, but you know as well as I do that every single scam we ever ran was based on one thing.  She’s gotta be different if you want to turn this chance into a career.  You break her heart and you’re as good as done in that world.”

“Celebrities date and break up all the time.”

“You’re not a celebrity.”  She shook her head.  “I mean, you’re kind of known, but…”

“Are you here to give me a pep talk or completely kick me in the nuts? Jesus,” I sighed.

“You know what I mean,” she smiled.  “She’s more well known. People will take her side.  Believe me. I’ve read enough gossip magazines to know what happens to the guy who dumps America’s Sweetheart.  Have you seen Kevin Federline lately?”

“I don’t even know who that is, Rae.”

Her eyes went wide and hands went up as if she’d proven her point. “Exactly.”

About GIVE ME SOMETHING:

Here’s the deal: I learned a long time ago that sometimes you have to use what you have to make things happen. What I happen to have is a pretty smile, long legs, and the ability to make men believe anything I say. Before you get on your high horse and start judging me, can you honestly say you’ve never batted your lashes at some guy for a free drink at the bar? That’s what I thought.

Keep that in mind as I tell you my story of how I took it one step further. My story is of lies, deceit, manipulation, and love. Yeah, love. Believe me, it fits. Especially when you factor in Nick and Tucker – one had my heart and the other one wanted it all for himself. Which one is which? Well, I can’t tell you that. It would defeat the purpose of the story. If I’m going to fill you in about me, Lila Garrison, and my life as a con artist, you’re going to need to know all the facts, including the ones about the two guys who made me want to give up the life of fancy clothes, expensive jewelry, fast cars, and easy money. Because sometimes one person can give you something that’s more valuable than all of that.

If you’re still interested, stick around. Just remember, I’m pretty good at convincing people to do what I want, so if by the end of this whole thing you feel worked over, don’t say I didn’t warn you.

ELeePicElizabeth Lee Bio:

When I’m not writing or playing the part of wife and mother, you can find me dancing back-up for Beyonce, singing back-up for Miranda, or sunning myself on the beach with a drink in hand.  Here’s the thing about being born and raised in a small town—you have a very vivid imagination!  Now, I channel it all to create stories where the girl always ends up with the right guy, first kisses are magical, and a happy ending is just that!
