About Unthinkable:

Unthinkable

Jake Callahan, leader of the Tribe, has always believed he’s one of the good guys. Now, hunted by the government he used to work for, he’s taking a crash course in being bad. What he desperately needs is a bargaining tool, and that’s unfortunate for Christa Winters, daughter of Jake’s former boss.

Christa is a scientist, a total geek, and a good girl with a secret hankering for bad boys. Which turns out to be embarrassingly inconvenient when she’s kidnapped by a stunningly gorgeous—but obviously bad-to-the-bone—man intent on using her against the father she loves. A man with a seemingly uncanny ability to know exactly when she’s thinking about kissing him—which is most of the time.

But people are dying, and it becomes clear that the stakes are much higher than Jake ever imagined. Someone is out to obliterate the Tribe and everyone associated with it, including Christa. Only by working together to uncover the secrets behind the past, can they ever hope to have a future.

Exclusive Excerpt:

There was probably a perfectly reasonable explanation for why this man was here. He obviously knew who she was. Ergo, he probably did know her father. She’d simply call her dad up, and he’d tell her…what? She couldn’t begin to imagine.

Why couldn’t he have been a strip-o-gram? She’d liked that idea.

“No.” The curt word broke into her somewhat random thoughts.

She shook her head. “No?”

“No, you may not phone your father.” He held out his hand. “Give me the phone.”

What the hell was going on? This wasn’t good. She only just resisted the urge to put her hand behind her back. Her eyes darted around the room, but she was still more confused than alarmed. She had an idea that wouldn’t last.

“The phone,” he said again.

“Why would I give you my phone, Mr. Callahan?”

“Because I’m asking you nicely.” He opened the leather jacket and revealed a shoulder holster complete with pistol. “That could change,” he murmured.

She stared at the spot long after the jacket was back in place and covering the pistol. Her mouth had fallen open. Now, she snapped it closed. She’d never in her life met anyone who wore a gun before. In fact, the only guns she had ever seen had been worn by policemen. Could he be a cop? Maybe it wasn’t a real gun. Maybe it was a prop. For his strip-o-gram act.

His face formed an incredulous expression. She had no clue why—she hadn’t moved. Not an inch, since she’d seen the gun. She wasn’t sure she could move; all her muscles were locked in place. Was this what it meant to be petrified—turned to stone? She really could not move. It was quite a fascinating phenomenon. She stared down at her feet, because it meant she didn’t have to look at him, or remember the gun, tried to wiggle one toe, finally managed it.

He cleared his throat, and she jumped.

What were you supposed to do in situations like these? Talk to them? Make them see you as a person. “Are you going to shoot me, Mr. Callahan?”

“Only if I have to.” He had a low and smooth voice, without even the hint of an accent.

“Look, I have no clue what you want, but I don’t have any money—I’m not worth going to all this trouble for.” She tried to make herself look small and harmless—not difficult when she was only five-foot-two. She even tried fluttering her lashes. Any moment now, he’d start his dance routine.

His eyes narrowed and a tic started in his cheek. “The phone.” His hand was still held out.

She was going to have to make a run for it. She edged back a little—if she lunged to the side, she might make it past him. He took a step closer, invading her personal space, so close she caught a whiff of his scent, masculine, spicy with a hint of sweat. It was a nice smell, reminded her of something…but she couldn’t remember what. Some old memory, one that made her feel sort of warm and fuzzy and—

“Jesus, would you fucking concentrate,” he growled, and she jumped again.

She bit her lip. “Sorry, but I get a little distracted when I’m nervous.”

“Christ, is this you nervous? I never would have guessed. Why don’t you do what I ask, and we can get the fuck out of here?”

It was getting awfully late for him to start the stripping thing.

“I am not a fucking strip-o-gram.”

“What? How…?”

About Nina Croft:

Growing up in the cold, wet, north of England, Nina Croft spent a lot of time dreaming of faraway sunnier places and ponies. When she discovered both, along with a whole load of other things, could be found between the covers of a book, her life changed forever.

Later, she headed south, picked up the perfect husband along the way, and together they volunteered to work in Africa. There they discovered a love of exotic places and a dislike of 9-5 work. Afterward they spent a number of years travelling (whenever possible) intermingled with working (whenever necessary.) Eventually they stumbled upon a remote area in the mountains of southern Spain and the small almond farm they now call home.

Nina spends her days reading, writing and riding her mare, Gencianna, under the blue Spanish skies—sunshine and ponies. She reckons this is proof that dreams really can come true if you want them enough.

Exclusive Excerpt:

“What were you doing on Earth?”

He stuck to the most obvious reason, the one he’d cultivated as a cover. “I was on your planet because I needed some rare goods. Given that Earth is out of the way and bound with restrictions on tampering with a developing species, any type of goods from your world fetch a high price at market.”

“So you’re in the import/export business? Funny, I would not have pegged you as a businessman.”

“Don’t say that.” He recoiled at the very idea. The horror. Him, dressed in a suit and tie, his clothing perfectly pressed? He couldn’t help but laugh. He gestured to his body. “Do I look like a businessman?”

“No, but then again, you also didn’t look like a guy who was hiding a spaceship under his house,” she retorted.

“Good point. But I will note that there are more spaceships hiding on your planet than you might imagine.”

“All that superior technology and you can’t help but crash land? And they say women are bad drivers.” The tilt of her lips let him know she teased.

“Where I come from, the women don’t drive at all.”

“Why am I not surprised to hear that?”

“There are reasons we do the things we do.” She would soon learn the universe was a harsh place, especially for females. Better if she began the process now of accepting her new status in life.

“Having a little pinky between your legs doesn’t give you the right to dictate.”

“Little? Lying isn’t attractive, wench. We both know I’m more than adequately endowed.”

To his surprise, she agreed. “Fine. You’re hung, which probably explains why you’re so stupid at times. All that blood loss.”

We are absolutely thrilled to bring you the Release Week Blitz for Ann Aguirre’s BREAKOUT! BREAKOUT is an Adult Romantic Science Fiction novel set in the Jax Universe and is a part of Ann Aguirre’s Dred Chronicles, published through Ace. Grab your copy of BREAKOUT today!

BREAKOUT - cover

Amazon ** Barnes and Noble ** BAM ** Indiebound ** Vroman’s ** Book Depository ** iBooks

BREAKOUT Excerpt:

While Jael and Keelah were gone, Dred felt the walls closing in. The space they’d chosen was barely sufficient for their number, but it was well hidden and defensible. She inspected all the machines to see if there was anything worthwhile, but she didn’t know enough about ship mechanics to be sure. Plus, stripping some vital part in here might compromise the station’s systems, killing them before they were ready to take off.

Mary, I hate feeling useless.

So she was beyond relieved when the two returned . . . but Jael was carrying RC-17. That didn’t bode well.

He handed it to her before climbing out of the wall panel, and she checked it for damage. The scorch marks on the casing looked like it had been shot, but she didn’t think any of the prisoners, apart from her crew, had managed to steal rifles or weapons. Dred turned an icy look onto Vost and his men. The shorter merc, Duran, shifted uneasily. Both the grunts were younger than the commander, probably by as much as ten turns. Redmond had curly black hair and medium brown skin while the other was pale and freckled. Duran seemed to be the youngest of everyone, and he exuded a boyish air that was probably what drew Calypso.

“Something you want to tell me?” she prompted.

“Yeah, about that . . .”

“Spit it out,” Vost ordered.

“Sorry, sir. When you sent us out to gather supplies a few days back, we ran across that unit. I thought it was scouting for our location, spying on us, so I blasted it.”

“Why didn’t you say something before?” Jael demanded.

Duran gave him a dark look. “You know how many cleaning bots I’ve run across up in this orbiting scrapyard? How would I know the one I shot is the exact droid you’re looking for?”

Tam shifted through the bodies crowded around the bro- ken unit to take a look, and Dred handed the metal carcass to him. With Ike gone, he likely knew the most about main- tenance and repair. A few minutes later, he let out a sigh.

“The battery’s completely fried. I’ll need to cannibalize another unit to get this one operational again.”

“How’s the memory core?” Martine asked.

That was the key bit. If that was damaged, too, they could forget about ever finding Ike’s stashes. And that might mean the end of their escape plans. Dred leaned in, along with everyone else, until Tam motioned them to get out of his light. Sheepish, she fell back a step.

He poked around a little more before pronouncing, “It looks intact, but I won’t know for sure until 17 powers up.”

“So before we start scavenging for ship parts,” Redmond muttered, “we have to find droid parts.”

Calypso sighed at him. “Why is your brain so limited? There are nine of us. It makes more sense to figure out what we need, then divide into search teams.”

“Like a scavenger hunt,” Martine said.

Jael offered a twisted smile. “Serious sodding hunt, bright eyes. The prize is freedom, the penalty for failure is execution.”

BREAKOUT Synopsis:

All hell is breaking loose in the edge-of-your-seat follow-up to Havoc and Perdition fromNew York Times bestselling author Ann Aguirre…

The prison ship Perdition has become a post-battle charnel house with only a handful of Dred’s soldiers still standing and now being hunted by Silence’s trained tongueless assassins. Forging an uneasy alliance with mercenary commander Vost—who is their only chance at escape—the Dread Queen will do whatever it takes to end her life sentence on Perdition and keep the survivors alive long enough to cobble together a transport capable of getting them off station.

If Dred and her crew can win the deadly game of cat and mouse, the payoff is not only life but freedom—a prize sweeter than their wildest dreams. Yet the sadistic Silence would rather destroy Perdition than let a single soul slip from her grasp…

Praise for the Dred Chronicles:

“There’s so much action, so much adventure, and more than that, it’s great writing.”—USA Today

“SiranthaJax fans may be intrigued to see what befell Jael after his ill-considered actions there, and new lead Dred is a strong linchpin for a promising new series.”—Publishers Weekly

“Spectacularly and spell-bindingly perfect with high octane action that keeps you on the edge of your seat and a romance that is surprisingly sweet and tender in a harsh and unforiving setting…This is honestly one of the best SF romance series I have read.” —Book Pushers

Awakening Excerpt Tour

We are so please to be working with Shannon Duffy and Entangled Teen to bring you an excerpt tour for Awakening!

Awakening - Excerpt Tour Banner

Exclusive Excerpt:

There was a massive power shortage in Tower province last night—one that allowed a convict to escape from Olympus Jail. Normally, a jailbreak would be bad enough, but this wasn’t just any convict. This was Darian One Sterling.

A murderer. And my childhood friend.

The newscaster scowls as Darian’s picture flashes in an emergency announcement. “Desiree,” Dad says. He opens and closes his mouth, then shakes his head. I can tell my parents are worried I’ll pity Darian because of our childhood friendship. But I don’t. Going against The Protectorate wasn’t just a violation. It was plain dumb. The Protectorate provides us with everything the citizens of Tower could need.

Darian’s infraction, breaking into a head Protectorate office and stealing government files, is a serious crime. It would have led to at least five years in jail. But when his parents attempted to turn him in, Darian murdered them in cold blood. That’s a crime punishable with life in the Terrorscape, where you experience the worst nightmares imaginable.

“He used to be such a good boy,” Mom mumbles.

I know what she’s thinking. She says it all the time about the convicts. The Protectorate guarantees within a ninety-nine percent accuracy rate that every citizen will feel like he or she is a valuable part of society. Anyone who doesn’t is just trouble.

Dad leans in toward the port screen, gazing at Darian’s jail photo. Darian’s dark hair has been buzzed short, and his crystal-blue eyes pierce the screen. “He isn’t good anymore,” Dad says, stealing another glance at me as if for a reaction.

I blow my hair out of my eyes with a huff, then turn to face Dad. “They’ll find him,” I say. “It’s just a matter of time.” Mom squints, studying my features. “Can you turn it off, please,” I say, then yawn dramatically. “I’m going to bed.” I smile and kiss them both on the

cheek before I leave the room.

I don’t really have to fake sleepiness because I’m actually exhausted. When the power outage occurred last night, the Dreamscape shut down. The whole province of Tower woke up in the middle of the night, so I didn’t get my usual eight hours of sleep.

Without the Dreamscape, we can’t sleep.

My parents remind me all the time about stories their parents told them, of how things were in the Manic age. The time before our bodies were upgraded to sync with the amazing invention called the Dreamscape. Thirty-eight years ago, people actually had to fall asleep on their own, and sometimes, they would toss and turn for hours. My grandparents said when sleep, in its mercy, did come, it often brought with it horrible images called nightmares.

The thought sends a chill rushing through my veins. In all my sixteen years of life, I’ve not experienced a single nightmare. The Protectorate manages our dreams—and our lives—to perfection.

Until last night when the power went out.

One power outage isn’t really cause for concern, I remind myself.

I head across our flat toward my bedroom, my shoes clicking against the steel floor. Here in Emerson district, as in all of the six districts of Tower, The Protectorate ensures all homes are made with the finest steel walls and floors, and equipped with air-purifying systems. Viruses and ailments can’t spread as easily in such an environment. Just another way they protect us—and another reason why Darian is so painfully ungrateful.

I scurry toward my large steel bedroom door and press my face against its cool surface a moment. Darian got what he deserved. He’s not the Darian of my childhood—the one that played jacks with me on the sidewalk, despite being a year older. Nor is he the Darian who stood up for me when Asher bullied me and called me Carrot Top until I cried. I’d tried telling Asher my hair was auburn and not like a carrot at all, but that just made him laugh harder. Darian shoved him down, threw sand in his face, and told him to leave me alone. At the time, I thought it was heroic, but now I realize it was a sign of the violence brewing inside him.

With a sigh, I push the door open and head toward my bed. I pass my drawing easel with barely a glance. Not even the bluest shades of azure and cobalt mixed with swirls of ivory on my current seascape can pull me away tonight. Slipping out of my shoes, I plunk down on my mattress, too tired to bother changing. I lie on my back and slip under the crisp, cool white sheets.

Even if I did feel bad for Darian, I wouldn’t admit it. Siding with anyone who violates

The Protectorate would make me Noncompliant. That would make me almost as corrupt as him. To side with those who violate The Protectorate is strictly forbidden and punishable by a week in the Terrorscape. The event is televised for all to witness. The thought of it makes me shudder.

And the shame it would bring on my family is the stuff I believe nightmares are truly made of.

No, I’m not Noncompliant.

My parents have nothing to worry about.

About Awakening:

photo (5)A thrilling, futuristic sci-fi novel set in a unique and thought-provoking world, from author Shannon Duffy.

Desiree Six (because she was born on a Friday) believes in everything the Protectorate stands for. She likes the safety and security of having her entire life planned out—her career, her mate, even the date of her death. She doesn’t even think to question when Darian, her childhood friend and neighbor, is convicted of murdering his parents. They had seemed like such a loving family. But if he was convicted, then he must have done it.

Then Darian shows up in her room late one night. He has escaped from the Terrorscape—a nightmare machine used to punish all Noncompliants—and needs Desiree’s help. What he tells her rocks her world to its core and makes her doubt everything she’s ever been told. With this new information, will Desiree and Darian be able to escape the Protectorate before it’s too late?

Chalice of Kari Synopsis:

Chalice of KariBetter to Die

Exploited by the government for her psychic gifts, Kahara Mitchell has unwittingly been trained as a deadly assassin. Unwilling to be used to kill innocents, she goes AWOL until her journey ends with her dying – buried under rubble in the wake of a tsunami. At her darkest hour, Lords Rom and Rah Andor, mirror twins from another galaxy rescue her – taking her to their intergalactic fleet where they heal and court her, determined to make her their own.

To Die For

Karinian Lords, Rom and Rah Andor are the co-ruling kings of the entire Daguronian Sector. They have waited over nine hundred years to find their destined mate. Now the two gigantic alien warriors must win Kahara’s love and willingness to bond, or die trying. Conspiracies abound to sabotage the triad union in an attempt to destroy the brothers and take down House Kari.

The Mission

The royal triad is prophesized to be the powerful force uncovering an ancient exploitive system that has driven many races to near extinction. But to do so, the protective brothers must allow their beloved mate to endanger herself as she uses her gifts fighting by their side in a war that determines the destiny of galaxies.
